Originally from Boone, NC, Winston established Mountaineer Heating & Cooling in 1981 after attending Watauga High School, Mercer University and Appalachian State University. He recognizes and adapts to the ever-evolving landscape of the HVAC industry and maintains Mountaineer Heating & Cooling as a HVAC leader in the High Country. He takes pride in overseeing a company that continues to grow with the community and provides an essential service with the utmost integrity. Winston is a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and in his free time is a skilled fisherman. He lives in Boone with his wife Karen.
Bob Johnson works in our Installation Department as our Shop Foreman. If it can be made out of sheet metal, Bob can make it. He’s been a part of our team since 1994 and brings a level of pride and craftsmanship to our work that is rare these days. You may also find Bob pre-planning one of our many install jobs before the work is actually completed. Bob makes his home in one of the most beautiful parts of Watauga County, Sugar Grove.
Brooks Norris moved to the High Country in 1993 and considers herself a local. In her spare time she loves spending time with her family, cooking and crocheting. Brooks is married to Scott and they have three boys and 6 grandchildren.
Joshua joined the business operations side of Mountaineer Heating & Cooling in 2021. He has played a significant role in company growth and development over the years and has enhanced several of our internal programs and processes. Our office operations and financials have never been managed as effectively and efficiently as they are now. He lives in Watauga with his wife, Molly, their daughter, Hazel, and son, Jackson. He is a deacon and member of Alliance Bible Fellowship and enjoys everything Star Wars, Legos, and pumping iron.
Drew Petrey, from Boone, NC, grew up in the heating and air industry. He joined his father full time with Mountaineer Heating & Cooling as a Service Technician in 2003 after several ventures as an entrepreneur. He spent time in the Sales Division before heading the service department in 2010. He assumed the General Manager position in 2015. Drew holds many industry certifications and maintains a State of North Carolina H3 Class 1 and an H2 HVAC license. He enjoys the challenges of the industry and finds great satisfaction in seeing projects completed with excellence. Drew is a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Boone where he serves in the children’s and music ministry. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading, playing guitar, and is a true sportsman enjoying many outdoor activities. Drew lives in Boone with his wife Fran, and children Evie, Mary Fran, Ward, Cade & Benjamin.
Dave James, a Sugar Grove native, joined Mountaineer Heating & Cooling in 2011 and brings nearly 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, and business development. He is a graduate of Watauga High School and Appalachian State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Dave works closely with home and business owners, providing education on the latest HVAC innovations and helping customers find the best solutions for their unique project needs. He has extensive training and experience in performing home assessments and is the company’s resident expert in system design and load calculations. An avid sports fan and member of the ASU Yosef Club, Dave also enjoys golf, traveling, reading, and home improvement projects. He lives in the Blowing Rock area with his family—Jessica, their daughter, Georgia, and their schnauzers, Jetson and Elle-Bean.
Coreen is a skilled Dispatch Coordinator with over seven years of experience in dispatch and administration. She is known for her problem-solving abilities, organization, and commitment to keeping things running smoothly. Outside of work, Coreen enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and two dogs exploring the local wilderness trails. She also loves all things pink and bringing a little fun and personality wherever she goes.
Andy lives in Laurel Springs with his wife and two kids, a dog, and 3 cats. He’s spent 15 years in residential HVAC and holds his NC H3 Class 1 license. In his free time, he enjoys running and disc golf.
